MTV presents REC, an electronic and urban music festival set in the heart of Rotterdam’s central district. Transforming over seven different venues, the festival creates a staggeringly diverse and exciting selection of stages. Now entering its second edition, the lineup unites cross-genre disciplines to build on its dual-genre core. Expect some of the most enthralling artists from across the globe to make an appearance.
Previous artists to have performed here include the likes of Skepta, SBTRKT, Lianne La Gavas, Santigold, Mayer Hawthorne, Omar Souleyman, Mount Kimbie, Hannah Faith, Rhye, Henrik Schwarz and many more.
Kino is Rotterdam’s newest movie theatre in the city centre. The historical building in the Gourvernestraat lends itself als the perfect host for rich movie history. The theatre holds four rooms, bar, and restaurant. As part of REC. Festival the theatre is screening two movies on Wednesday November 1st.
Bar, located at the schieblock is a colourful venue that hasn’t been around for very long, but already made a name for itself as one of Rotteram’s finest clubs. Probably the most diverse of all locations participating, the bar programme presents everything from world-music to techno. Artists such as ACID ARAB and !!! (CHK CHK CHK) will perform at the legendary nightclub. On Saturday strange sounds from beyond is curating the night with Orpheu the Wizard, Inga Mauer and DON’T DJ amongst others.
Approximately two years ago, Rotterdams live music scene got a new boost when ANNABEL first opened its doors. The concert venue, which was rebuild on the ruins of an old discotheque, has been hosting numerous live events and club shows. ANNABEL’s mainstage combines typical urban industrial architecture with warm lighting and smooth sound. On the second floor, floating behind the backside Balustrade, visitors will find a second area called ‘In de Ruimte’. Both areas will be used during REC. Festival and will be open for both single-day visitors and weekendticket holders.
TRANSPORT means no-nonsense clubbing. The venue is stripped from all but minimalistic lighting and a crystal clear sound-system, offering a pure and obscure nightlife experience. Literally underground, the ANNABEL basement creates the perfect environment for hard-hitting electronic music. For REC. however, it’s been decided to pull a complete 180 and program the most fun, easygoing and colourful parties the dark space has ever seen.
