Bilbao BBK Live is a rock and pop festival situated at Kobetamendi mountain, Spain. With the idyllic town and world-famous surfing spot a stone’s throw away, the location is among the best in Europe for a diverse festival experience. BBK Live is one of the biggest festivals on the Iberian penninsula, and is the Basque Country’s number one. It’s easy to see why, with a stellar line-up year on year since its first edition in 2005. In its trophy case: Guns’n’Roses, Depeche Mode, the Deftones, Coldplay, Amy Winehouse, The Mars Volta, Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Incubus, The Police, R.E.M., The Prodigy, Rammstein, Slayer, Pearl Jam, The Cure, Radiohead, Bloc Party, Kings of Leon, Green Day, Franz Ferdinand, The Black Keys, Phoenix, Crystal Castles, Muse, The Jesus & Mary Chain, and MGMT.
The Basque capital has been accruing an increasing reputation as a top tourist destination, and has plenty of delights to offer outside of the festival. No surprise that Bilbao BBK was nominated for “Best Foreign Festival” at the UK Festival Awards in 2010 and 2011 and for “Best-Medium Sized European Festival” three times running at the European Festivals Awards (2009-2011). First headliner of 2017 will be: Depeche Mode!
Bilbao BBK Live takes place within a specially constructed complex on a hillside in the Kobetamendi Park, welcoming 140,000 festival goers each year. It is excellently facilitated, with numerous food stalls and bars dotted around, as well as a “walking bar” service. No more fighting through crowds half way through a gig because you’re dying of thirst!
All in all, you’re pretty guaranteed to spend most of your time actually enjoying the music at Bilbao BBK!
